Building Magazine has published an article discussing the platform construction innovation applied on The Forge. Our commercial office building project with Landsec uses a P-DfMA building system to achieve faster, cheaper and more sustainable results than traditional construction processes. By prioritising the design at the start of the project, P-DfMA takes advantage of a standardised, productised approach to construction, which is more akin to the way the manufacturing industry operates.
Like standard offices, the Forge features 9m spans with a hybrid steel and concrete construction, however the project makes use of unique elements of innovation, including a temporary system of load transferring, diagonal struts, leading to improved speed of construction. Other features include reduced embodied carbon in the concrete mix, benefits from standardised beams and columns, and further advantages for services and cladding installation.

Bryden Wood Director Alastair Powell spent a very successful few days in Houston, Texas this month at CERAWeek, the world's premier energy conference. We attended with our partners TerraPraxis and Microsoft, and our Repowering Coal project stood out as one of the most engaging and popular stands at the event.
The conference was dominated by the oil and gas industry, and so there was a lot of interest in our bold, climate change solution, which offers an achievable path to replacing the world's coal-fired power plant boilers with advanced heat solutions (small modular reactors).
The benefits offered by repowering coal are vast: clean, reliable power sources which will work alongside renewables to support the energy needs of our growing, global population; protection of the local economies currently dependent on coal-fired infrastructure; and the potential to cut global carbon emissions nearly in half by 2050.

Read our new blog about the importance of social value in the architecture and construction industry, exploring ways in which the design of the built environment impacts us all.
We take a deeper look at the triple bottom line of sustainability and the importance of working with a Design to Value approach, as we discuss our work on projects ranging from pharmaceutical engineering, to healthcare facilities and placemaking for residential design.
'With rising construction costs and an increased focus on decarbonising our built environment, it's essential that we do not lose focus on improving the social value and impact of what we create.'

We're excited to announce that construction has now begun at our new factory for Igus Inc. in Cologne. The new facility speaks the same architectural language as the existing Igus headquarters, and serves as an iconic example of the high-tech movement, while moving the company into the next phase of growth. The design of the new facility is fully integrated, component-led, and constructed using a bespoke kit of parts.
In this photo you can also see the existing factory building in the background.
