Sedron Technologies – Advanced Biosolids and Manure Upcycling

CGI visualisation of Sedron Technologies' Varcor biosolids and manure upcycling facility, showing the full site with process vessels and storage tanks

A site-agnostic technology platform for turning wastewater biosolids and dairy manure into carbon-negative electricity, water and fertiliser, optimised for rapid deployment across multiple sites

Sedron Technologies, headquartered in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, deploys its Varcor® technology across two sectors: municipal biosolids upcycling and agricultural upcycling. The Varcor system processes wastewater biosolids and dairy manure to produce carbon-negative electricity, purified water, dry organic fertiliser and liquid organic ammonium nitrate fertiliser. Bryden Wood was first engaged to review the site-agnostic Varcor platform and then to explore optimisation and productisation opportunities to enable rapid deployment across multiple facilities.

Project details:

  • Varcor® technology processes diverse waste streams into carbon-negative electricity, purified water and organic fertilisers

  • Deployed across two sectors: municipal biosolids upcycling and agricultural upcycling

  • Bryden Wood engaged to review the site-agnostic Varcor platform for optimisation and productisation

  • Subsequent engagement for additional site deployment and product development studies

  • Alternative balance-of-plant design proposed, reducing footprint and improving efficiency

  • Scale-up options evaluated to increase the effective output of the Varcor technology

  • Process and product design improvements identified to enhance performance

  • Greenfield development options reviewed for phased implementation of new plant

  • Design options identified to reduce capital cost for future deployments

  • Debottlenecking cases investigated to maximise brownfield facility productivity

  • Optimum strategies determined for capacity expansion

Bryden Wood's process improvement strategies have enhanced the performance of the Varcor technology, for existing facilities already in operation and for the future deployments Sedron is now planning across multiple sites.
