This pages contains a range of selected projects from our framework contract for Lewisham BSF projects. In total we have worked on 12 projects for the Lewisham BSF programme.
The school was built to replace an existing school on the site. Construction commenced on the existing school playing fields, with the remainder of the school remaining in operation throughout the construction phase. On completion of the new school, the existing buildings were demolished. The school was constructed to meet the stringent sustainability and energy efficiency targets set by London Borough of Lewisham. Teaching spaces were provided with natural ventilation, and the site included integration of solar panels to provide domestic hot water, photovoltaic panels and biomass boilers to provide clean energy and rainwater recycling enabling a BREEAM Excellent Rating.
Bryden Wood provided the building services design and environmental strategy for twelve schools as part of the Lewisham BSF programme. The schools ranged from entirely new build schools to partial renovation, often involving listed buildings. A number of the schools were all age intake from reception to secondary. Bryden Wood’s role was to work from scheme inception through to delivery of working installation drawings for the contractors, using 3D digital modelling techniques.
Construction often involved working in the grounds of the live school sites to build the new school facilities before the existing could be demolished. This required complex phasing and detailed planning with the schools to ensure safe segregation of construction works and pupils, and smooth decant into the new buildings.
To meet planning requirements, the schools were designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent or Very Good ratings, and between 12-20% renewables with a 60% carbon reduction in accordance with Department for Education targets.
