The accommodation is arranged symmetrically around a ‘spine’ which provides the main circulation for the house.

The strength of the simple concept relies on the juxtaposition of the highly crafted spine and the overt industrial detailing of the two accommodation wings. The spine comprises a series of rings formed from laminated softwood and shaped ash supported on tubular steel legs. By contrast, the main body of the house is a clearly expressed steel frame with white plaster panels overlaid by a profiled metal ceiling.

The house is entered via the end of the spine at first floor level. The main accommodation is accessed off the spine and includes an indoor swimming pool and squash court. The end of the spine broadens to take in spectacular views and to incorporate a mezzanine level to the main living space below.
